Hatch Chile Festival, Sept. 1-2, 2007, Hatch, N.M.
Tiny Hatch, N.M., handles the 10-fold swell of population for the chile festival by directing travelers to the nearby towns of Las Cruces, Truth or Consequences or Deming. By car, from Las Cruces (at the junction of Interstate 10 and Interstate 25) head north on I-25 about 15 minutes. Take exit 41 to the festival grounds.

Hudson Valley Garlic Festival, Sept. 29-30, 2007, Saugerties, N.Y.
The festival is held at Cantine Field in Saugerties, N.Y., 100 miles north of New York City and 50 Miles south of Albany. Saugerties is accessible via the New York State Thruway (Exit 20, Mile Marker 101). State Routes 9W, 212 and 32 all meet in the Village of Saugerties. The days of the festival, the police will provide plenty of help to get you to a parking spot.

Pudding Hollow Contest, Oct. 13, 2007, Charlemont, Mass.
The 2007 finals for this fun culinary event will take place at the Federated Church on Route 2 in Charlemont, Mass., a hilltown community of about 1,300 residents located along the Deerfield River and the scenic Mohawk Trail in northwestern Massachusetts. Recipe entries are due by Sept. 10, 2007.

As a life-long resident of New Mexico, I have to ask, what is a "Hatch pepper"? I have never heard of the particular variety of chile. Do you mean the NuMex Hatch? By the way, the Anaheim is more properly known as New Mexico No.6. Never mind that the picture for the "Hatched Eggs" look more like Big Jims. That is one big irritation to most of us in the state. "New Mexico chile" tell you nothing. What variety is to be used, that would be of use.

Another question I have to ask, was it not possible to get anybody closer that Illinois, Virginia, or Massachusetts to cover this festival? Did one of your writers even go to Hatch?

I do applaud your publication on at least spelling "chile" right.
