It's May, and like any good gardener, I'm already knee-deep in dirt. This year, in addition to my garden at home, we're planting a Relish garden at The George Washington Carver Food Park. We'll document it as the season gets underway.
We're also starting a "Relish Your Kitchen" column, where we'll feature small things that enhance our kitchens-after all, who can afford a kitchen remodel these days? For upcoming columns, we want to know what you love about your kitchen. Write to us at editor@relishmag.com. Better yet, send us photos of the little things that make your kitchen work.
We're also proud to announce the birth of our first cookbook: The Best of Relish. It's a compilation of our best recipes and really rocks. Check it out.

Rethink Your Drawers
Drawers are a great way to store measuring cups and other sundry cooking utensils. Measuring cups won't come toppling out, and small items, such as zesters, measuring spoons and funnels, are easy to find.
Mom's the Word
Send Mom a cake, and one to a soldier, too. Bake Me A Wish! an award-winning, family-run, online bakery, is offering the Mother's Day Freedom Cake. For $75, you can send a luxuriously crafted chocolate cake to a mother, and Bake Me A Wish! will send the same cake to a soldier overseas. Order online (bakemeawish.com) by May 7 for Mother's Day delivery.

Leeks
Grown in mounds of dirt, leeks need a quick bath before cooking. Cut off the root end, slice vertically, and rinse under cold running water. Use only the white and pale green parts, saving the dark green tops for soups and stocks.
We'll Take Our Lumps
"CYA," my daughter texted. "What on earth does this mean?" I thought. (It's similar to "OMG," which I now can define.) The point is, it works-it conveys a message in a short space. This is what we were striving to do with the word "funner" on our March cover, which aggravated more than a few readers. We were attempting to be playful, but in this day of text messaging and blog speak, we understand the need to uphold proper English. CYA ("see ya").
