This is a beautiful book, recipes were easy to follow and the illustrations of each plate were perfect. However, if it was a paperback or had fewer photos not directly related to the recipes maybe it would be more affordable. Price is a big factor in the cookbooks I buy. With so many recipes on the web & TV its difficult to spend much on a hardcover cookbook. The text was nice, and as a 46 year old w/ failing eyesight the font size was perfect! The education content was a nice addition, however i dont buy cookbooks for education. I need to get food on the table everyday for a family of five. On weekends things slow down a little but not a lot. I breezed through the entire book once and tabbed pages/recipes I liked. I doubt I would go back to the book for anything but a recipe.
1. Recipe: Cinnamon Cranberry French Toast
Comments: We enjoyed this recipe. Usually my kids dont like cinnamon raisin bread, but when it was dipped and made into french toast it went quickly. Breakfast for five involved 14 pieces of toast w/ a side of patty sausage. We used all milk, no cream and substituted canned cranberry for the dried. The following Saturday morning we used the same recipe but added blackberry jam instead of the cranberry and it was also a hit.

2. Recipe: Roasted Corn & Crab Chowder
Comments: Delicious, but serving for 8 barely fed five of us. We had a salad to start. We don't get too much rock crab in Florida. I used blue crab that we caught ourselves and in addition to the chicken stock I used some frozen clam stock that I added to the crab shells and cooked down. We will use this recipe again. Very easy.

3. Recipe: Mussels Dijon
Comments: We enjoy mussels and have them often. We get fresh water farm raised mussels in our grocery store. I have used a similar recipe but had never added the mustard because the kids don't really like it too much. I only added 2 tablespoons instead of 4. It was very good. We've never had a mussel we didn't like.

We also made the Ale Braised Short Ribs, it was the only meal we all didnt enjoy. I finished it only because i knew what i paid for those Short Ribs!!
We enjoyed the Pot Roast. I didn't use veal or oxtail stock, since it's not a staple in our pantry. I used canned beef stock and it was very good. You can't go wrong with pot roast in our house. I used a Chianti in the recipe and finished the bottle with dinner.
