Thank you for this correct pronunciation! On our first visit to Italy, we stopped at a sidewalk cafe and I asked for this dish using the usual American pronunciation ("brushetta"), only to have the charming water smile and gently correct me: "That is, brusketta..." The first day of a wonderful vacation!

bruschetta pronunciation
Io parlo un po' italiano and every time I order this item correctly in a restaurant the waiter/waitress usually repeats what I ordered - pronouncing it "bru-shetta" perhaps politely trying to educate me and then I feel embarrassed! I don't like to correct people - and it does seem that the American way to say it is with an SH sound. Even my husband who travels to Italy regularly for business says it that way! Thanks for the article.

Someone else to back me up...
Ilearned Italian in college and have found that it's most useful for reading menus! I've been pronouncing it brus-ketta the whole time, because I read it before I ever heard it. I've had friends correct me...they don't really want a lesson on Italian pronunciation. I just can't say it the American way. Ultimately, though, however you say it it still tastes good!

Bruschetta pronunciation
I recently returned from a short stay in Italy. I was informed that the correct pronunciation is the one that is listed. However as in many 3-syllable words in Italiano, the accent is on the first syllable...as in BRUS-keet-ah
