Dinner and a Movie

It's August. It's hot. Perfect time to snuggle up to your air conditioner with a DVD. And when there's a movie, there must be food. Preferably dinner. Our pick from deep in the DVD vault is a 1994 Johnny Depp classic. While Depp may be cute dressed up as a pirate, if you haven't seen What's Eating Gilbert Grape, you've missed one of his best performances. Fit for the kids, this touching film is about small-town life and family allegiances. It also features a great performance by the then 15-year-old Leonardo DiCaprio as Depp's "special" younger brother. This movie calls for basic, homey fare with no pretense or uppity ingredients. Honest and hard-working, like Gilbert Grape. Enjoy.
